It feels so normal to be friends with my ex-husband but, I get it, we live in a society that expects us to be somewhere on the spectrum of hate. I admit I’m slightly entertained by all the different reactions people have to our friendship—from shock and confusion, to people finding us inspiring and intriguing. It is the latter reactions that led to MJ Jaid Altidor Domond contacting my “exie,” David Muir, to learn more about our unique friendship and about his career as an artist. I soon learned that MJ also wanted to interview me to get a better understanding of why I continue to be such a great supporter of David aka my exie aka mi “babyfaaada.”
It makes so much sense to me to continue having a good relationship with the man that I was married to for most of my adulthood, and the father of my two sons. Also, as I share in the interview, David supported me greatly as I worked to accept myself as gay woman. Now, that’s impressive particularly since we both grew up in Jamaica where the culture is … just a tad homophobic. And David also accepted me as gender non-conforming woman dressed all handsome in ties, vests, suits and so on and he continues to support me as a LGBT leader and in all of my endeavors.
